Skin Boosters

skin boosters
What are skin boosters?

Skin boosters are injectables that improve skin texture, hydration, elasticity and overall appearance. Skin booster treatment involves injecting hyaluronic acid which is a soft, gel-like substance under the skin, which improves the skin's elasticity, firmness and radiance giving you an overall glow.

A booster involves lots of micro injections scattered across the face. You can choose a large area of your face or just single areas, such as your cheeks, forehead, eyes, around your mouth or neck.

The product is designed to evenly spread around the level of skin where it’s injected. So it will disperse and fill up the area. This will give the skin an instant improvement, as well as kick starting a long term renewal process.

What are skin boosters made of?

Skin boosters are made of hyaluronic acid, which is a clear gel-like substance that is found naturally in our bodies. It is a sugar-based molecule that is well known for its moisturising and hydrating properties. When injected into the lips, it can help to add volume and give them a more youthful appearance.

Skin boosters increase the water content of the skin because hyaluronic acid attracts 1000 times its weight in water.  This makes the skin super hydrated and brighter. In addition skin boosters have a ‘bio-remodelling effect’ as well, which means they make your skin improve from the inside out.

The hyaluronic acid which is slowly released into the skin, causes a chain reaction of events. Your skin starts working harder and produces more collagen and elastin.  These substances make your skin firmer and smoother, and therefore more youthful.

What to expect?

It is always advisable to use the most highly trained and skilled medical practitioners for the most effective results. Nurse Becky is renowned for her gentle touch and natural looking results.

A face-to-face consultation will be carried out in the clinic, where we will run through what the procedure entails, discuss the results you are looking for and answer any questions you may have. You can feel at ease and relaxed on the day of your treatment, knowing you’re in safe, expert and medically qualified hands.

Is it safe?

Even though the treatment involves lots of tiny injectons, it is genreally safter than dermal filler treatments. This is becuase the injectable solution is much thinner, so it will not cause any blood vessel blockages.

Side effects are generally very mild and can include:

  • Swelling and bruising lasting up to two days

  • Bruising is more likely around the eye area, less likely around the mouth or cheeks. But it will heal with no lasting effects.

How long does it last?

Most boosters are designed to be carried out in a package of 2 or 3 sessions. The full improvement can take around 4 weeks, and the results of a skin booster should last up to 6 months.  After that time you can repeat the process or just continually ‘top up’ your skin with individual treatments at 3-6 month intervals.

The treatment does not require much downtime. You may wish to take the rest of the day off work so you can assess how much swelling there will be. If you’re concerned about swelling, consider getting the treatment done on a Friday. Most people can resume their normal activities the next day.

We believe that skin boosters are perfect for those who don't want to look "done". They just want to look fresher and younger without the need for plastic surgery

See our Aftercare page for more information on how to care for yourself after the procedure.

Will it hurt?

Many patients are under the impression that skin booster procedures hurt. Those patients will be surprised and happy to hear that the procedure is very rarely painful. In fact, most patients need only the use of a numbing cream during the procedure.

As well as picking the right person to undertake your treatment, you can help things along by:

  • Not drinking alcohol for at least 24 hours before treatment

  • Not taking any anti inflammatory medicines

  • Not taking fish oils or garlic supplements as these can thin your blood

  • Avoid booking your appointment in the week before your period, as sensitivity is heightened at this time
